Overview
Medical Companion is a privacy-focused mobile application that helps individuals organise information relating to their health.
It is designed around a local-first architecture, with privacy treated as an architectural decision rather than an optional setting.
Why it exists
Personal health information is scattered by default. It arrives from different places, in different formats and at different times, and the person it describes is usually the only one trying to hold the whole picture together.
Medical Companion is intended for an individual keeping track of their own health information.
Engineering approach
Privacy is an architectural decision, not an optional setting.
The application takes a local-first approach to the information it holds.
It is designed so that the person whose information it is stays the one in charge of it.
Design priorities
What the application is built to do well.
Local-first design
Built around a local-first approach rather than around a central service.
Privacy by design, not by setting
Privacy follows from how the application is built rather than from a configuration the user has to find.
Practical to use
Something usable on an ordinary day, not only when someone has time to sit down with it.
The person's own information
Built around the individual whose information it is, rather than around a third party.
Current stage
Released and available on the Apple App Store. A new release for iOS and Android is in development.
